“The Right Time-The Right Choice-For Johnson County.”

United States Army Military Police Veteran

                FBI National Academy Class 257

My name is Stoney Vann and I am excited to run for Johnson County Sheriff in 2018! I am a Christian, husband, father, and U.S. Army Military Police Veteran. I have been a sworn Indiana State Police Officer since 1988, and in 2002, became the Commander of Investigations at Post 52. For the past 28 years, I have either lived or worked in Johnson County. I graduated with honors from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency and Disaster Management and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. My wife and I attend Emmanuel Church in Greenwood, and volunteer our time at The Refuge food pantry in Johnson County. My hobbies and interests include golf, traveling, and spending time with my wife, our five children, family, and friends.

In today’s challenging world, a Sheriff with the most diverse experience protecting you and your family is critical. My experience, qualifications, and education have prepared me well, not only to make Johnson County safer but also the Sheriff’s department even better. I will strengthen the Investigations Division with personnel, equipment, training, and other resources. Solving crimes for victims is my number one priority to our citizens. All employees of the Sheriff’s department (civilian staff, correctional officers, reserve and merit deputies) are valuable to me. My vision is for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department to be a premier law enforcement agency in Indiana.

Drugs are out of control! Not only is Johnson County affected but also communities across Indiana and nationwide. I pledge to aggressively attack drug issues in Johnson County by partnering with federal, state, and local law enforcement to interdict drug trafficking and drug dealing in our county. Working with the medical community to provide treatments and programs to those fallen victim to the drug epidemic will reduce repeat offenders and alleviate some jail overcrowding as well as promote a productive community.

I will collaborate with the Johnson County Council and Commissioners to address the needs for an effective, efficient, and fiscally responsible Sheriff’s office. As Sheriff, I will present proposals to resolve our jail overcrowding dilemma without building a new jail which will save the county’s citizens tens of millions of dollars. The current jail was built in 1977 to house 104 inmates. In 1997, the ACLU sued the county due to jail overcrowding. As a result, the jail was later renovated, adding 195 additional bed spaces. However, since 2002, only 23 more bed spaces have been added. In 2016, the monthly average number of inmates housed at the jail was more than the amount of beds available. Another lawsuit is imminent and we must act now! As your Sheriff, my solutions to address current and future jail overcrowding are effective, administratively sound, and fiscally responsible for the citizens of Johnson County. Once again, my name is Stoney Vann and these are some reasons why I am running for Johnson County Sheriff and I am asking for you vote on May 8, 2018. Early voting starts April 10th.
